The first thing
is to choose the size of the cigar, depending on how much time you have
for a smoke. For after meals, a large one may be fit. For after breakfast
or breaks, a short and thin one is more appropriate.
In regard to strength or smoothness, it is up to you.
Cutting
the tip
After verifying that the chosen cigar is in perfect state, without cover
cracks, smell the aroma at the end of the cigar, where it is more intense.
To cut it we recommend the special guillotine with one or two blades,
a scissor, or a circular knife, assuring that they are sharp enough. The
cut must be made without eliminating the little roll that fixes the filling
to the cover. Never cut it with your teeth, disregarding your wishes to
appear rustic or authentic, it will undoubtedly spoil the cigar.
Lighting
a Havana
The more traditional
manner is with a wooden match, but a gas lighter is also acceptable. Gasoline
lighters or candles spoil the cigar's aroma.
Do it slowly: place the flame near the end of the cigar and let it scorch
a little, blow it slightly, put it in your mouth and suck it while lighting
it, rolling it between your fingers. Make certain that the lighting is
uniform.
Smoking
Do
not inhale the smoke, but enjoy its taste as it runs through your palate.
Do not dip it in coffee, whiskey, or in any other beverage. Do not flick
the ashes constantly, rather let them fall off or flick them if they grow
very long. If your cigar goes out, flick the ashes and light it again.
When finished do not ground it , but rather place it on the ashtray and
let it burn out.
