ECOTURISM

Baracoa

First village established by Spaniards in Cuba, after it was isolated from the rest of the country during 400 years, that made a local and singular culture. It is located in the regions with the higher Cuban precipitations, and in the middle of green mountains, in a ecotourist region, you can stay in the hotels "Porto Santo" or "El Castillo" in the little hotel "La Rusa" or in Maguana village, a dreamily place near the sea ;in the Cathedral of the village you can see the fig leaf, a valuable relic that is said was built with the woods of the "three caravels" that makes it the oldest hispaniard and Christian monument in America.

Fluvial Trip through the Toa River. A nice trip through the deepest river of the eastern part of Cuba. In the middle of an impressing verdancy and instead of using a motorboat you can enjoy the typical local "Cayuca".

Sendero a El Yunque. A good hike from Baracoa outskirts upto the top of this singular mountain, natural symbol of this region and by its characteristic way, were mentioned by Colon in his Discovering Daybook. Good legs are required and wear "supplies on board".

Parque Nacional Alejandro de Humboldt. It is provided of a good interpretative center that can allow you to know the zone nature and its values, also several paths, interpretatives too, through a pure virgin nature, in this forest was , or still is, the last sport of the emblematic "Royal woodpecker"

Villa Pinares de Mayarí. Ecolodging located at in the north of Holguin's province, among high mountains and exuberant pine groves that give its name, we recommend.

Sendero al Salto del Guayabo. A mountain , a pine grove path , where you can enjoy at its end of the fall view, maybe the highest of Cuba, over 100 meters of water falling.
